As a low-income women in the U.S my options for reproductive health care are quite limited. When I discovered the non-profit Planned Parenthood I was a little skeptical of how well they would be able to support my needs, but I was amazed. They cared about my health are more importantly they didn’t care about my inability to pay. Often times Planned Parenthood is swapped as a buzzword that only conjures up ideas of abortion or stem cell research. But what few people know is that the majority of procedures and services provided by this organization are not abortions. It provides 270,000 Pap tests , more than 360,000 breast exams , 4.2 million std tests are ran, and prevents about 579,000 unintended pregnancies a year (source: plannedparenthood.org). I was given the opportunity to send my own personal story to be read in front of Missouri congressmen and women. Roy Blunt refused to see the importance of this organization and agreed to keep it funded only if Planned Parenthood stopped performing abortions which isn’t going to happen. We will not compromise on any area of women’s health care and that experience only made me want to fight harder for Reproductive rights.
